Make Sure Your Great Day In The Sun Doesn't Turn Into A Miserable Night
It's summer so of course your going to be outside and exposed to the sun. Here are some tips to make sure your glow is golden and not red!
1. Don't be fooled by a cloudy day! My daughter got the worst sunburn of her life on a stormy, cloudy, rainy day. There was even thunder and lightning! She wasn't even red...she was purple it was so bad. So, always remember that if it's cloudy or you spend the day under a tree in the shade...that's not enough.
2. Apply at least a 35 SPF sunblock about 15 before you go out. This gives time for the lotion to dry and absorb into your skin. If you are going to be getting wet or expect to sweat, make sure you use a water proof sunblock. Re-apply every couple of hour on most common burning points like chest, shoulders, back of neck, & nose. You will still get some color even with sunblock, and by color I mean tan, not fireball red.
3. If you are wearing make-up, be sure to use products that have sun protection. Any day time moisturizer or foundation you use should always include some level of SPF. After all, your face is the one place on your body that is ALWAYS exposed...unless your into ski masks.
4. Wear sun glasses to protect your eyes. Not only your eyes themselves, but the skin around your eyes. The upper and lower lid area is the thinnest layer and most delicate area of skin on your whole body. I remember this from when I was training to become a beauty adviser for Avon. Ever since, I take special care when applying any kind of beauty product.
5. Drink plenty of fluids. We all know to drink plenty of water on hot days for health reasons, but this also
keeps your skin hydrated. If you don't want to end up with dry scaly skin drinking water makes a huge difference.
6. When you get home hop in the shower and gently scrub off all that sunblock. After, apply a good moisturizing skin cream. I'm a fan of good old Palmer's cocoa butter. I use the really thick stuff in the jar and I have for over 20 years. (my mother always said that's why even after 2 pregnancies I have never had a stretch mark...she is probably right, mothers usually are.) You can find it at most drug stores, walmart,
and even some dollar stores for $4 to $6.
